The 2017 Maven once again emphasizes the unlimited potential for Grenache in West Paso Robles. At 100% Grenache, this is a beautiful example of the varietal. With three distinctly different vineyard sites in the mix, we’ve captured both a New World fruit and textural presence, as well as more traditional Old World layers of dried herbs and spice. Each vineyard was fermented separately in small open top boxes using only native yeast. Following a gentle basket pressing, the wines were aged in 300 and 400L French Oak barrels for 20 months and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The 2017 vintage delivered some of the most approachable young wines we’ve made here at Torrin. While it will age with grace for a decade or more, the 2017 Maven is remarkably good at this point and will certainly impress in its youth.
