Torrin Vineyard

Maven 2009

Maven 2009

The Rhone Report

2009 Torrin The Maven (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles) A brilliant wine, the 2009 Torrin The Maven is a blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah, with the Grenache coming mostly from the James Berry vineyard, and the Syrah from Torrin‟s own vineyard. Gorgeously pure and perfumed, with fantastic Grenache driven aromas of spice, violets, licorice, crushed rock, and floral notes that are intermixed with ripe blackberry and black cherry styled fruits, the wine is full-bodied on the palate, balanced, seriously structured, and very long. It should benefit from a year or two in the cellar, and like the other Torrin wines, drink well for a decade or longer. (95+ pts.)

Steve Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar

2009 Torrin Vineyard The Maven Paso Robles
(75% grenache and 25% syrah; 16.2% alcohol): Inky ruby. Black raspberry and boysenberry on the assertively perfumed, spice-accented nose. Juicy and expansive on the palate, displaying sappy red and dark berry flavors and notes of candied violet and Indian spices. Emphatically rich but vibrant for its size, finishing with excellent thrust and length. (93 pts)
