2016

39% SYRAH/ 27% TANNAT/ 23% CABERNET SAUVIGNON/ 11% GRENACHE

The Willow Creek District of Paso Robles is a magical place.  It’s cooling coastal influence and array of hillside exposures and soil profiles provides the opportunity to create some truly special wines.  Tsundere is an example of what is possible when we get outside the boundaries of traditional blends and bring together the complex layers of different families of grapes.  The 2016 vintage was outstanding across all varietals giving us a remarkable amount of creative freedom. Each of the varietals were fermented separately, gently basket pressed and aged in 300L French Oak barrels for 22 months.  The wines then received their first racking as they were blended for bottling.  After bottling unfined and unfiltered the wine enjoys and additional 12 months of aging prior to release.   As the name Tsundere implies, with time, this blend emerges as one of the most complete and enjoyable wines in the Torrin lineup.  Enjoy now with a few hours in a decanter or cellar with confidence for over a decade.

2015
34% CAB SAUV/ 33% SYRAH/ 19% TANNAT/ 14% GRENACHE.
-FALL 2018 RELEASE-  Sold Out.

Have you ever mixed red and blue paint? Initially, each color greets the other with streaks and swirls. It is beautiful, but not yet integrated. With time, the two become one seamless intense purple. That is a bit of a visual interpretation of Tsundere. Here the more red fruits, herbaceous undertones and tannic backbone of Bordeaux Varietals meld with the deep blue and black fruits, savory salinity and dried herbs of Rhone Varietals evolving into one of our most intriguing and complex blends. With time, these seemingly opposing characteristics come together to create a wine of impeccable balance. As with the Rhone Varietals, our Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat were fermented with native yeast. We conducted only punch downs without any incorporation of oxygen for cap management throughout the fermentation and the wine was aged on it's lees in French oak 300 liter barrels for 22 months prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered. We then cellar the bottled wine for an additional 13 months prior to our Fall 2018 Release. This results in a wine that is really impressive for it's multiple layers and can be enjoyed in its youth.

The word "Tsundere" comes from a Japanese character development process that describes a person as gruff and edgy towards others and then over time warms up and becomes gentle and friendly. Over time we are amazed at the transition of how beautiful and open these wines become with just a little bit of time.

2014
51% Syrah/ 31% Cabernet Sauvignon/ 18% Tannat.   -SOLD OUT-

"I remember tasting the first vintage of this cuvée, which has always been a bruiser, but in 2014 it shows another level of polish and finesse, with lots of black and blue fruits, crushed violets, earth and hints of leafy herbs aromas and flavors. Deep, rich, and concentrated, with building tannin, this full-bodied powerhouse is going to have a long life." - Jeb Dunnuck. 95 Points.

"... Graphite, black fruits, scorched earth and charred meat aromas and flavors... it has a full-bodied, pedal to the metal character on the palate as well as ripe tannin and big mid-palate. Drink this hedonistic 2013 anytime over the coming decade or more."-Jeb Dunnuck. 95 Points.

French oak barrels, 70% new. The word "Tsundere" comes from a Japanese character development process that describes a person as gruff and edgy towards others and then over time warms up and becomes gentle and friendly.  We thought that this word is often fitting of our wines when we first bottle them, and especially of this wine. However, for the 2013 Tsundere, this is a gorgeous wine right now with even just a year in bottle.   Over time we are amazed at the transition of how beautiful and open these wines become with just a little bit of time.
